NARS Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation Review

Hi, friends! I’m back with another foundation review for you all and as promised in my March Favorites, today’s review will be on the NARS Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation. I’m super excited to be reviewing this foundation because I LOVE NARS. Especially when it comes to complexion products like foundation and concealer, they make some of the best. I’m already a huge fan and avid user of the Radiant Creamy Concealer and I’ve heard that this foundation is supposed to be a foundation version of the concealer. STOKED. The All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation was my holy grail foundation at one point, so NARS has definitely always been good to me.

Without further ado, let’s get into the review:

Some details on the foundation from narscosmetics.com:

Overview:

My thoughts:

Packaging:

The foundation comes is a tall, skinny glass bottle with a smooth, shiny finish. The cover has a soft matte black finish, consistent with other NARS complexion products.

I’ve noticed a few high-end ish brands using plastic bottles for their foundations recently, so I’m really happy to see a glass bottle – it just makes it feel so much more luxurious. And I love that it’s clear glass, not frosted, because it makes it so much easier to tell when you’re running low!

The bottle comes with a pump dispenser, which I love. I personally do not like having to pour out the foundation from the bottle. And this pump is good!

In my review of the Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Foundation, I complained about the pump getting blocked easily so sometimes the foundation squirts out sideways, but I don’t have that problem with this pump! The hole of the pump is fairly big, but the amount of product that comes out is not a whole lot – maybe just under a pea-sized amount comes out with each pump.

Scent:

Oddly enough, I can’t even recall what it smells like and I’ve been using it for weeks now. That must mean it doesn’t have much of a scent at all because I definitely remember strong scented products!

Application:

The consistency of the foundation is pretty thick, but it’s what you would expect from a full-coverage foundation. It’s thick enough where it kind of dollops when you pump it out (I use the back of my hand) and it doesn’t move much when I tilt my hand in any direction.

Even though NARS recommends using only ‘one pump or a pearl sized amount,’ you know I didn’t listen to that LOL. I just can’t imagine one pump of any kind of foundation being enough to cover my entire face.

I usually start off with about 4-5 pumps depending on how I feel about my skin that day. I also didn’t use my fingers to blend out the foundation, like NARS suggests… Who still does that?!

With my favorite foundation brush, the Morphe Y-6, which is a flat-top kabuki brush, I dip into the foundation and dot it around one of my cheeks. I blend out that half of my face first (I always do my left side first, what about you?), not including my forehead, then do the same with the other half of my face. After that, I usually have a bit of excess left on the back of my hand, which I use on my forehead and down my jawline/neck.

This foundation blends out amazingly. It doesn’t dry down very quickly so you don’t have to worry about working fast. And since it doesn’t dry down quickly, it’s really easy to blend and build up coverage in certain areas without the foundation caking up.

With some foundation formulas that dry down too quickly, when you go in with a second layer, it kind of lifts and breaks up the first layer off the skin and you end up looking patchy – none of that here. This also is a plus for dry patches! The formula of the foundation doesn’t cling to or bunch up around dry spots like some foundations do. If anything, it makes those areas look even better by camouflaging it.

Coverage:

This bitch is definitely full-coverage. I could probably get by with using maybe 2-3 pumps if I didn’t have chronic hyperpigmentation from old acne with the addition of active acne that is a must for me to completely cover up (or at least try to). If you’re just looking to even out skin tone and cover up a few imperfections, just 2-3 pumps will definitely give you a flawless look – it’s THAT full-coverage.

Finish:

Ugh I LIVEEE for the finish of this foundation. It gives you the most beautiful radiant finish without being dewy. When I hear the word ‘dewy,’ I think of an oily look, but the finish is definitely not oily. I like to think of the term ‘radiant’ (when it comes to describing makeup) as being life-like.

Sometimes when foundations are so full-coverage and so matte, the skin ends up looking there’s no life in it. There’s no dimension or natural contours of the face – it’s just kind of flat. At that point, bronzer, blush, and highlighter become very necessary to give the skin some life.

But, with this foundation, even though it gives you amazing coverage, it doesn’t flatten you out at all – you still get that natural looking glow on the high points of your face that would normally happen on bare skin. LIVEEEE.

Despite the full-coverage nature of this foundation and with how thick it is when dispensed, it feels really lightweight! It’s definitely ‘full coverage without the weight,’ just like NARS claims. And the greatest thing is that it stays lightweight throughout the day.

You know how some foundations tend to feel really heavy at the end of the day and you just NEED to take it off so your skin can breathe? I don’t have that feeling at all with this foundation. I can definitely attest to the ‘breathable’ texture that NARS claims this foundation has.

To further continue my love confession to the finish of this foundation, my absolute favorite thing is how well the formula works with powders. Even though I have fairly dry skin, I tend to really powder it up to help keep the foundation in place throughout the day.

I put my makeup on at around 6 am and I work until 4 pm, so baking certain areas of my face and really setting everywhere else well with powder helps the foundation stay in place for those 10 hours.

However, for the first few hours of the day, before my natural oils start to blend with the foundation, my skin can look REALLY dry, especially my under-eye area and the inner part of my cheeks. And that happens especially when I use a matte foundation, which is what I normally use.

Full-coverage foundations always just seem to be matte, which is why I have so many matte foundations. But, with this foundation, the radiance of the formula seems to just melt the powder into it, leaving the perfect type of finish for me. The powder mattifies the foundation, but just the right amount to still look natural. LOVES ITTTT.

Longevity:

Honestly, I wouldn’t say this foundation lasts any longer than most of my other foundations. I normally start to see a bit of shine on my nose around lunchtime, which would be around the 6-hour mark. But, I think that’s pretty normal for any foundation and a little blot and maybe some powder are all that’s needed to freshen up my face.

I would say I could even push the foundation to the 8-hr mark without blotting, if I’m just indoors in an air-conditioned environment. It’s definitely not going to last for 16 hours, like NARS suggests! But, I hardly ever wear my makeup for 16 hours at a time, so that’s no deal breaker for me.

The longest I’ve worn this foundation is probably around 17 hours and by hour 13, I looked like an oily mess. When blotting my face, lots of the foundation actually came off, so I had to reapply the foundation in those areas.

However, it was a full day of traveling and bustling around town, so sweat was also a factor. Take away from that what you will, but I think the foundation lasts a sufficient amount of time for everyday wear.

This foundation also does really well around the more creasy areas of my face, like around my nose, smile lines, and under my eyes. Those areas are always the first places that my foundation starts to break down (especially around my nose), but this foundation performs surprisingly well around those areas – I hardly see any breaking up at all.

Is it worth the cost?

I think $49 is pretty fair for 1 ounce of foundation from NARS. It’s a bit pricey compared to other foundations with the same amount of product, but I would consider NARS to be on the higher end of makeup. And for that price, you’re paying for all the extras like the nice packaging, pleasant scent (or lack of bad scent), and for the brand name, of course.

Given that you don’t really need a lot of product for a great application, I can see one bottle of this foundation lasting a very long time. I’ve been using it almost every day for about 3 weeks and I haven’t even gone through a quarter of it yet. And I used a lot of product! So, it’ll definitely last me at least two months of using it almost every day, which isn’t bad at all for $49.

Rating:

I HAVE to give this foundation a 5/5. There just isn’t anything that I don’t like about it! NARS makes some of the best complexion products and this foundation is no different. To make it EXTRA amazing, I’d love for it to actually last 16 hours, but I think that’s being greedy for any foundation. The coverage is full (just how I like it), the formula is so easy to blend, and it has the most amazing finish to it. It’s literally everything.

And that’s it for this review, guys! If you’ve tried this foundation, leave me a comment and let me know what you think of it! Totally agree? Or do you think I’m crazy for loving it? I’d love to know your opinion on it!
