Best Makeup and Skincare of April 2019
It’s that time again! May has just begun, so it’s time for another Monthly Favorites post!
I didn’t try that many new products in April because I’ve been holding out on making new purchases since I knew the Sephora Spring Sale was coming up! And LOTS of makeup was bought during that sale.
(If you’re reading this before May 6th, the sale is still going on! Check out my post, Sephora Spring Sale 2019, for the discount codes!)
Since I didn’t try out much new makeup, I kind of struggled putting this post together because I don’t want to just throw together products just to make a post out of it, I want to share products with you that I really love!
However, I do have a handful of amazing products that I’m excited to share with you – both drugstore makeup and luxury makeup products, but mostly drugstore.
And I know I usually only talk about makeup in my posts, but I also have a few skincare products to share with you this month!
If you’ve missed my recent Monthly Favorites posts, be sure to check them out, too!
So, without further ado, let’s get started!

Best Makeup and Skincare – April Favorites
Maybelline – City Bronzer in Medium 200
The City Bronzer is Maybelline’s newest bronzer and if you’ve read any of my recent posts, you know I’m currently obsessed with bronzers! I just NEED to have every single bronzer that is released LOL.
I held this bronzer in my stash for a while before trying it because to be honest, the shade looks a little strange in the pan. It's hard to see in the photo, but it almost has a green tinge to it.
But, when I finally decided to try it, I fell in love with it! It’s become my go-to bronzer for “natural skin” days.
The application is super smooth and blends out very easily. I was initially shocked with how much color payoff there is when applied because it looks very subtle in the pan. It was a very good kind of shocked!
And although there is a lot of color payoff, because it blends out so easily, I’ve never had an issue with applying too much.
With the Medium 200 shade, it’s definitely more of a neutral-toned bronzer, which would be ideal if bronzers tend to look orange on you.
It’s also marketed as both a contour and bronzing powder, which I can see working if this shade comes off too neutral toned on your skin for it to be a bronzer.
I prefer a cool-toned shade for contour (this one is my favorite), so this powder won’t be used as a contour product for myself.
If you’re into the warm, sun-kissed, bronze look, this probably isn’t the bronzer for you. BUT, if you’re looking for a natural bronzer just to accentuate your features, you’ll love this.
ColourPop – Jelly Much Shadows in Close to You, Cursed, and Big Ego
I’ll be honest with you – I kind of forgot all about the ColourPop Jelly Much shadows for a few months.
I wrote a review on them when they were first released and I absolutely loved the formula right off the bat, but the shades weren’t what I gravitate towards on a regular basis, so they kind of got forgotten about…
UNTIL, I was browsing the ColourPop website one day and saw they had a bunch of new shades in the Jelly Much shadows! I went a little crazy and bought a bunch of them, but these three are my favorites.
Close to You is from the Spring Collection and it’s a super pretty baby pink shade with pink and violet glitter. I’ve been using this shade the most out of all of them.
Cursed is from the Disney Villains Collection and it’s the most beautiful true antique gold shade I own. This collection is limited edition so I might need to buy another one before it’s gone forever!
Big Ego is also from the Spring Collection and it’s a cool duo-chrome pale lavender shade with a teal flip. I’ve been playing around with duo-chrome shades a lot recently and this one easily became one of my favorites.

ColourPop – Zoella Supernova Shadows in OG and Bellini
These two Supernova shadows are also part of my recent ColourPop shopping spree and are part of the Brunch Date collaboration with Zoella!
These two shades look very similar in the swatch photo, but OG is much more glittery and Bellini is a pure metallic shade.
OG is a champagne gold with silver glitter and Bellini is a rose gold metallic. And both are gorgeous!
All of the Supernova shadows are super long wearing on the eyes and don’t crease or flake off that much throughout the day.
Whenever there’s glitter, you can’t expect there to be NO fallout, but it’s very minimal with these.
Marc Jacobs – Highliner Gel Pencil in Brown(Out) 54
I’ve mentioned the Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Pencil a handful of times before and I totally think it’s one of those few makeup products worth your money.
It just applies so smoothly, with so much pigmentation, and it stays put all day – even on the waterline!
I’m mentioning it again because I got a new shade! Brown(Out) 54 is a bronze shade with a shimmer finish and I LOVE IT.
I’ve been using (Earth)quake 41 for a while now, which is a matte dark brown shade, but I’ve been wanting to try out something new.
Brown(Out) 54 is still dark enough to give you a smoky look, like Earth(quake) does, but the hint of shimmer just adds something extra!
e.l.f. – 16 HR Camo Concealer
This concealer had a huge release with everyone in the beauty industry saying it’s a dupe for the Tarte Shape Tape Concealer.
I mentioned it in my drugstore dupes post as a possible dupe for Shape Tape, but at the time, I was still testing it out and couldn’t say for certain if it is.
WELL, after about a month of testing it, I don’t think it’s a dupe. They’re similar in that they are both full-coverage and have a thick consistency. But, the e.l.f. Camo concealer dries down a lot faster and has much more of a matte finish.
Even if it’s not a dupe, it’s still a VERY good concealer. And it’s only 5 bucks! You really cannot get better than this concealer for that price.
If you have dark circles and need something full-coverage and matte to cover them up, you’ll love this concealer.
Pixi Beauty – DetoxifEYE Eye Patches
c/o Pixi Beauty
Eye patches have been pretty trendy recently, right? I don’t know why I took so long to try them, especially since I’ve been struggling with dryness in my undereye area!
It includes hyaluronic acid and caffeine to smooth and depuff the undereye area, helping to reduce dark circles. And hyaluronic acid is a key ingredient for hydration, which is something I really need!
You put it on for about 10 minutes and when you take it off, you gently pat the excess serum into your skin. Let me tell you – my undereye area never felt so good!
I’m not very good about using eye cream (which is probably why I have dryness), so I was used to my undereye area always looking tired and feeling dry and I didn’t really know any different. Until these patches!
Life changer, for sure.
Fresh Beauty – Rose Deep Hydration Sleeping Mask
c/o Fresh Beauty via Octoly
Last, but definitely not least, is another skincare product that has totally changed the way I feel about my skin.
Like I said above, I was used to my undereye area feeling dry. Well, the same goes for the rest of my face.
I’ve been trying out a lot of different skincare products and some start off great and I think it’s my new holy grail, and then they stop working and my skin is back to its dry self.
I think the answer to all of my dry skin woes is a sleeping mask! And in particular, the new Fresh Beauty Rose Deep Hydration Sleeping Mask.
It’s the first sleeping mask I’ve ever tried, so I can’t compare it to anything, but damn my skin feels great in the morning! And the feeling lasts throughout the whole day and the following day!
I will usually do the sleeping mask every 2 or 3 nights and my skin just drinks up the moisture each time.
The gel essence side is the first step, and the essence includes rose water, damask rose extract, and hyaluronic acid. After the skin absorbs the essence, the water-cream mask is applied right on top of it to lock in the moisture.
My skin loves this mask! It also feels super refreshing and cooling on the skin when applied. My skin gets irritated by a crazy amount of things, but this mask just soothes all the irritation away.
And that’s it for my favorite makeup and skincare products of April!
Have you tried any of these products? Are you now planning on trying some of them? Be sure to let me know your thoughts down in the comments!
