2018 Mid-Year Favorites - Luxury Edition

Hi, friends! It’s been a while, hasn’t it? I spent the first half of June in Melbourne with Justin and got slammed with a cold a few days before I flew back home. :( But nonetheless, it was such an amazing trip and I’m so sad to be back home! I wish I could have stayed longer than two weeks, but we both needed to get back to work. Gotta make dat cash monayyy.

Since we’re just about to enter the second half of the year (seriously, where has the time gone?!), I thought it’d be fitting to round up my absolute favorite products of the first half of the year.

I’ve tried out a good amount of makeup this year and a lot of products have worked really well for me, but this list will be my ULTIMATE favorite products of the year. I also have tons of old favorites that I still use all the time, but for this list, I’ll keep it to just products that I’ve tried this year (or at the very earliest, the ending of last year). Otherwise, we’d be here for days!

As you probably already knew based on the title, this list will include only my favorite luxury/high-end products and I will do a separate post for my favorite drugstore/affordable products.

So, without further ado, let’s get started!

Tatcha The Silk Canvas Protective Primer ($52)

First seen in: April Favorites

I’ve been using this primer every single time since the day I received it and I don’t think I’ll ever stop! It makes my skin look so smooth and flawless, it totally lives up to its name of 'The Silk Canvas.'

Currently, I’m applying it on top of my Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base because I still need some moisture and The Silk Canvas isn’t really a moisturizing primer. If you have a skincare routine that you do prior to makeup, this primer would work really well on top of a moisturizer.

My skin has been very good lately (knock on wood) and I’m sure that this primer has something to do with it.  According to Tatcha, The Silk Canvas protects the skin from makeup and the outside environment to help prevent clogged pores and breakouts. After using it for almost 2 months, I can totally vouch for that claim.

NARSNatural Radiant Longwear Foundation ($49)

First seen in: March Favorites

This foundation has definitely been my go-to foundation in the last few months. I just love everything about it!

It’s full-coverage without being too thick and cakey, the finish is a beautiful radiant finish (not matte and not dewy), it’s super easy to blend, easy to build up coverage, and it works really well with all of my other face products. It’s seriously just an all-around amazing foundation.

Marc Jacobs BeautyO!Mega Bronzer Coconut Perfect Tan in Tan-Tastic ($49)

First seen in: May Favorites

Even though this is a new addition to my makeup collection, I’m already obsessed with it and have been since the day I received it.

The shade of this bronzer is absolutely perfect for me. (So if you’re also a pale Asian girl, get on this.) And the scent is heavenly! Every time I open it, I feel like I’m on a tropical vacation. Which is kind of ironic since I live in Hawaii.

Although it’s a bit pricey for just a bronzer, look at it – it’s huge! I honestly can’t see myself hitting pan on it for years. And everything about it is so luxe. From the sleek all-white casing, to the rose gold details, to the weight of the casing (it’s really heavy), everything about it just makes you feel like you’re a rich bitch LOL. But I wouldn’t expect anything less from Marc Jacobs.

Tan-Tanstic was Limited Edition, so I've linked Tantric.

Kevyn AucoinThe Sculpting Contour Powder in Light ($44)

First seen in: May Favorites

Finding the right contour product has always been difficult for me. It always seemed like it was either too orange, too dark, or just looked like dirt on my face. Well, this contour powder, my friends, put an end to my search for the perfect contour shade.

This shade actually looks like how a shadow would naturally look on your face, rather than a brown streak on your face. It’s very much a cool-toned shade, which I found is the trick for making contour look natural on my skin.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer in Medium Brown ($23)

First seen in: March Favorites

After being a long-time user of the Perfect Brow Pencil by Anastasia, I made the switch to the Brow Definer a few months ago because I wanted my brows to look more natural. Well, I don’t think I’ll be switching back anytime soon because I love this pencil! It’s definitely my favorite out of all the Anastasia brow products.

The formula of the Brow Definer really makes it easy to create hair-like strokes and the wide angled tip also makes it quick to do so. The formula of the Perfect Brow Pencil is much more waxy, which can make your brows look “painted on” if you aren’t careful.

If you’re a fan of the formula of the Anastasia Brow Wiz Pencil, but have more to fill in than just a few strokes, I’d totally recommend this pencil. The formula is very similar (if not the same), but you get so much more for your money and the angled tip makes filling in your brows so much quicker.

Drunk ElephantC-Firma Day Serum ($80) and T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Night Serum ($90)

First seen in: May Favorites

I absolutely raved about these serums in my May Favorites and I still feel the same way about them. Using both of the serums in my skincare routine has made such a big difference in the texture of my skin.

I used to have a lot of tiny white bumps everywhere (may have been milia), but they have all almost fully disappeared. I still have a few here and there, but it’s a huge improvement.

It’s interesting to see that there are NO highlighters on this list! I am obsessed with highlighters (I mean, who isn’t?) so it’s crazy that there are none that made this list. I feel like there weren’t many stand-out luxury highlighters so far this year? Maybe I’ve been completely out of the loop, but the only one that sort of stood out to me was the ABH x Amrezy Highlighter. Although that was in my March Favorites and I still really like it, I don’t find myself reaching for it enough to be included in this list.

Also interesting is that I have no eyeshadow palettes to add to this list! I might be really going crazy because I actually have not bought a single luxury eyeshadow palette in 2018. I know right, it’s crazy. At one point, all I was buying were eyeshadow palettes. But, how many eyeshadow palettes does one really need? My heart thinks there's never enough, but my wallet thinks otherwise.

And that's it for my mid-year luxury favorites! I'm actually shocked that this list isn't very long, but I've been a much more frugal shopper recently. (Ugh, being an adult sucks, right?) Be sure to keep an eye out for my mid-year drugstore favorites list, which will definitely have more items than this list.

Also, any time you are planning on making an online purchase, don’t forget to use Ebates! Many makeup brand sites (like Tarte, Bobbi Brown, and NARS), Sephora, Ulta, and even Amazon participates in Ebates. Use Ebates every time you order something online so you can get a bit of your money back! (Some stores even offer in-store cash back) I’ve made almost $500 in cash back from Ebates since I started under 2 years ago and I literally only buy makeup LOL so if you’re not using it, you’re totally missing out! I wrote a review on Ebates when I first started using it here.
