Hi, friends! Another month has passed which means it’s time for another Monthly Favorites post! Is it just me, or did April fly by even quicker than the other months?!
In the last month, I actually tried out a bunch of new things – some were good, some were not so good, and some were amazing enough to make it into this month’s post! I won’t waste any time today and just get straight into the products.
Tatcha – The Silk Canvas Protective Primer
I’m normally not a fan of primers that are marketed to smooth the skin or fill pores because in my experience, it makes my skin too slippery for the foundation to really adhere to it. BUT, after hearing rave reviews about this primer and because I’ve been wanting to try Tatcha products for a while now, I bit the bullet and splurged on this guy. And I’m so glad I did!
Even after just the first day of using it, I was in love. Before even putting my foundation on, I could already see that it smoothed out my skin a ton. Because it’s not a moisturizing primer, I still apply my favorite Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base first, then I apply this primer. I was curious on how the two products would work together, and I couldn’t have hoped for better results. This combo is totally my new favorite primer routine. In addition to smoothing out texture and making your skin feel like a baby’s bottom, the primer supposedly protects the skin from makeup and the outside environment to help prevent clogged pores and breakouts. I haven’t really seen a difference in that, but I’ve only been using it for about 2 weeks now. It would be a huge bonus if it actually improves my skin.
Flower Beauty – Shimmer & Strobe Highlighting Palette
I bought this palette at the same time as I bought the Flower Beauty blush that was mentioned in my March Favorites. But, with the MANY highlighters that I own, I didn’t have the chance to really give it a go until last month, even though I've had it for a while now. And I was stunned with the quality of this highlighter (especially for the price)! The formula reminds me a lot of the Ofra highlighters, where it’s really soft, kind of dry, not pressed into the pan super firmly so there’s a lot of powder kick-up if you really dig your brush in there, and it’s probably super easy to break. Some people might not like that about it, but I personally love it. I think it creates a super blinding highlight with only a few strokes. I like to pat it onto my face then gently blend it out so there isn’t an explosion of powder everywhere. It’s kind of a dry formula, so people with a lot of texture might not like it that much because it can emphasize the texture. But, on the other hand, the powder is super finely milled and there aren’t any chunks of glitter in it, so at least that doesn’t emphasize texture even more.
Now let's talk about the shades. The photos do not even come close to showing how bright these shades are! Even the darker gold shade is so bright and blinding. I initially thought that shade wouldn't work on me since I have a fairly light skin tone, but girl it works! The downside of this, though, is that this palette won't work for darker skin tones. All of the shades are definitely too light. But, if you have a fair complexion, you're going to love this palette!
Morphe x Bretman Rock – Babe in Paradise Highlighting Palette
If you have been on the fence about buying this palette, buy it! The formula of this palette is absolutely incredible (which makes me want to buy all of Morphe's new highlighters that were just released). The formula is SO creamy and every single shade is beautifulllll. It's crazy pigmented, as well. As someone that's from Hawaii, I'm honestly so proud of Bretman Rock for his success - I mean, a Morphe collab means you've basically made it in the beauty world. And a lot of you may not know what some of the shade names mean, but trust me, it's hilarious for anyone from Hawaii.
My favorite shades are definitely Vaygaytion and Get Lei'd. Vaygaytion is like the perfect champagne shade and Get Lei'd is like a pink champagne. Both super pretty. I can also use both Behbeh gurl and Mahu, but I don't gravitate towards them on that often. Behbeh gurl is for those days that I want to be super extra because it's a really bright pink and Mahu is a little dark on me, but it's good for those days that I load up the bronzer and I'm going for a sun-kissed look. The other two shades, Cheehoo and Shady Bitch, are too dark for me, unfortunately. But, that's the thing with most palettes, yeah? They normally try to make it so it'll work for all skin tones, so naturally you won't be able to use a couple of them. But, for $29, it's still a great value. And it comes with a fan brush!
ColourPop Cosmetics – Super Shock Shadows in Ladybird and Frog
ColourPop Super Shock Shadows have got to be the coolest formula of eyeshadow in the industry. It's like a cream shadow, but not really because the texture is different. I don't even know how to explain it, except that it's amaze balls. They've been my favorite eyeshadow to use on my lid because they are extremely pigmented and they don't crease throughout the day, nor do they lose their pigmentation. I have a bunch of the glitter/shimmer shades of this shadow, but these two take the cake! I mean just look at them - they are basically straight up metallic. And I absolutely love it.
Pixi Beauty – Eye Define Waterline Pencil in TightlineBlack
I think I have found my new favorite waterline pencil! I've never experimented with Pixi products before, so I was super stoked when they sent me their entire line of eyeliners and mascara to try out. (Super proud blogger moment to receive an entire collection!) Made especially for the waterline, this pencil is super soft which makes it easy to glide on, yet it doesn't smear off throughout the day. I absolutely hate when the pencil starts to wear off throughout the day and you end up with black gunk in the corner of your eyes. Gross! Who wants that?! For such an affordable price, it performs like my other favorite waterline pencils from Ardency Inn and MAC, which cost a whole lot more! And for those of you with sensitive eyes, I also have sensitive eyes and this pencil does not irritate them at all. It's a win.
Ana Luisa NY – Tia Large Hoop Earrings
I recently got these hoop earrings and my long-time love for hoops have returned. In high school,
I think hoops were pretty much the only type of earrings I wore. Recently, I've been much more into subtle stud earrings, but these definitely brought back my love of hoops. They are like the perfect size and I love that they're thick, so they're less likely to be bent. Also, they're gold plated so they feel super luxurious without the hefty price tag of an all-gold pair.
iDeal of Sweden – Phone Cases
You guys might be sick of me sharing iDeal of Sweden phone cases, but I'm sorry because I really love these phone cases! Just look at them - they are so pretty! The left one is from their most recent collaboration with Hailee Lautenbach (who I believe is a model, to be honest I didn't know who she was before this collab LOL) and the right one is from their 2018 spring collection. Love them. You already know I have a code for you for these - LIANA20 for 20% off!
I do get commission on the sales made using my code, so just know that if you use it, you are supporting me and my blog and it is very much appreciated. :)
Jesse McCartney – Better with You
Is anyone here an OG Jesse McCartney fan?! Because I am!!! Beautiful Soul is one of the greatest songs ever made and if you don't think so, I'm sorry but I don't think we can be friends. I was such a big fan of his that I convinced my 10th grade English teacher to let me do my research project (essay and presentation) on Jesse McCartney because technically looking up his life story and all the little details about him IS research. Yeah. I did that. Go 15 year-old Liana.
While he's been releasing music here and there over the years, I definitely think this is his best 'comeback.' I'm just super excited to see him doing the music thing again. We need more, Jesse!
ColourPop Cosmetics – No Filter Concealer
I am actually so sad that this concealer was a disappointment for me. I wanted to like this concealer SO BADLY. I've seen so many great reviews about it that I was sure I was going to like it, but I hate it. From the very first time I tried it, I hated it. The formula is way too liquidy for me and there is definitely not enough coverage. I'm a full-coverage kind of girl and my favorite concealers are Tarte Shape Tape and the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, so this formula is just not my cup of tea. If you're not a fan of thick concealers, then this one might be good for you.
Another thing I hate about it is how it performs on my nose. I always use concealer to highlight my nose, but I swear you guys, this concealer just took all of my foundation off my nose when I went to blend it out. It was so frustrating. I don't know, maybe it's just me and I'm doing something wrong. But, I did give it a fair shot and every time I used it, I hated it.
And that's it for my April Favorites! Leave me a comment with your opinion on any of the products I've mentioned this month, I'd love to hear it! Hope you all have an amazing May!
