Au Naturale Cosmetics - Review
Hi, friends! Hope all of you are having a great March so far! Today, I am very excited to be doing a review on Au Naturale Cosmetics, a makeup line of ‘vegan, organic, paraben-free, and ethical makeup, which is both a brand and a cause responsible for starting a Clean Beauty Revolution all over the world.’
Our Mission: The #CleanBeautyRevolution.
The Clean Beauty Revolution is what makes Au Naturale unlike any other natural cosmetics brand. From day one, each ingredient has been scrutinized before being included into a formulation, only those who are ethically sound, factually healthy & naturally sourced making the final cut. And from day one, the company has been determined to provide consumers with much more than a line of healthy products.
Au Naturale Cosmetics is both a brand & a cause, the line serving as physical evidence to the consumer that cleaner beauty is possible. The integrity of the line will never be compromised, as it is a pivotal piece in the company's greater political battle to demand stricter regulation of cosmetic products in the United States. In creating a line of vegan, organic, paraben free & ethical makeup, Au Naturale Cosmetics is opening consumer minds to the importance of transparency & generating demand for continued change.
Doesn’t that sound great?! I think we all have an idea of how many unnatural ingredients goes into a standard makeup product, and I am definitely guilty of just shrugging it off because well… there hasn’t really been a ton of options in the beauty industry that are clean.
As someone who has struggled with acne for years (and still do) and someone that cakes on the makeup daily, I have no doubt in my mind that makeup really does make a difference in the health of my skin. I think all makeup wearers out there can agree that going au naturale is one of most proven ways to stop breakouts and irritation caused by pores being clogged with makeup on a regular basis.
Founder of Au Naturale Cosmetics, Ashley Prange, had the exact same thought when she created this makeup line:
Ashley Prange was working as a nuclear analyst in D.C. when she decided that going "au naturale" [sans makeup] shouldn't be her only way to avoid breakouts & irritation. She did her research, dubbed her coffee grinder as a mineral mixer & set out to create makeup that would leave her skin as happy as it was after a week of nakedness. Her mission was to use exclusively healthy, natural & ethically sourced ingredients in order to develop a replacement for each and every product in her former beauty routine. Her skin's newfound glow didn't go unnoticed, and it wasn't long before she had a waitlist of personalized orders from friends & colleagues. In 2011, Prange began her e-commerce business, Au Naturale Cosmetics. It has since evolved into both a brand & a cause responsible for starting a Clean Beauty Revolution all over the world.
Now that we covered some of the history behind the makeup line, let’s start taking a look at some of the products!

Zero Gravity C2P Foundation in Lucerne
Our Zero Gravity Creme to Powder [C2P] Foundation Stick goes on like a nourishing creme but finishes like a weightless powder.
Formulated without animal bi-products, synthetic preservatives, nano particles, gluten, parabens, fillers or toxins, our Zero Gravity Creme Foundation is 100% natural, cruelty-free, vegan and made in the USA.
Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam Seed Oil), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Ricinus Communis (Castor Seed Oil), Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla Wax), Organic Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba Seed Oil), Organic Lavandula Officinalis (Lavender Oil), Manihot Esculenta (Tapioca Root Starch), Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides, Micas, Zinc Oxide, Silica, Copernica Cerifera (Carnuba Wax). May Contain: Ultramarine Blue, Chromium Oxide Green.
Okay, I’m going to be totally straight up with you guys on this product – it is not a full-coverage foundation. If you’re a full-coverage person, then this foundation probably won’t be to your liking. However, if you’re a light-coverage person, this foundation will be right up your alley!
I absolutely love the stick application – it’s so convenient and makes applying foundation such a breeze! It glides on super smoothly and there is absolutely no issue with the foundation not blending well. (That’s always one of my worries when it comes to stick foundation, but this one blends like a dream.) The foundation feels extremely lightweight, and the claim of ‘applying like a cream, drying finishing like a powder’ absolutely held true for me. After applying one layer of the foundation, it still felt like I wasn’t wearing anything.
To apply the foundation, I applied it directly from the stick to my skin (make sure not to share with others if you do this!) and I blend it out using my favorite foundation brush, the Morphe Y-6, which is a flat-top kabuki brush. Under the ‘tips & tricks’ tab of the product page, it is recommended to blend the foundation using clean fingers. While I’m sure this technique works, I’ve always preferred using a brush over my fingers to blend out my foundation.
Just one layer gives a ‘your skin, but better’ type of coverage, so this would be perfect if you’re just looking to cover up some minor imperfections, like minimal hyperpigmentation. It is very moisturizing, so if you’re a fan of tinted moisturizer, you’re going to love this foundation.
If you’re more of a full-coverage person, building up the coverage of this foundation is definitely possible. Adding more layers isn’t an issue in terms of blendability and appearance – you’ll still get a seamless finish that doesn’t look cakey at all.
All in all, a good product! I definitely recommend it for those that want a ‘my skin but better’ look.
This foundation is currently offered in 15 shades, which I think is fairly decent, although not the best. With only 3 shades that are described as 'deep', I'm hopeful that Au Naturale will expand the shade range in the future.

Pure Powder Highlighter in Begonia
Our Pure Powder Highlighter is designed to provide radiant illumination and a soft focus finish to your face and décolletage.
Formulated without animal bi-products, synthetic preservatives, nano particles, gluten, parabens, fillers or toxins, our Pure Powder Highlighter is 100% natural, cruelty-free, vegan and made in the USA.
Iron Oxides, Zinc Oxide, Mica.
This highlighter is beautiful! The shade Begonia is described as ‘a soft, reflective gold with copper accents,’ but it definitely pulls a little bit of pink (probably from the copper), which makes it into such a beautiful rose gold shade. It isn’t the most blinding highlighter I’ve tried, but it’s perfect for those days you want a healthy glow, instead of a ‘blind the haters’ glow. It does build up nicely, though!
The powder is so finely milled that it applies so smoothly and get this guys, it doesn’t accentuate pores or any type of texture you have. Win!
The pump dispenser for a powder was new to me, I have to admit. I totally unscrewed the entire cap and ended up with powder everywhere before I realized there’s a cap that pops off to reveal a pump. Don’t be like me and make that mistake! It’s the worst feeling knowing you just wasted valuable product. :( Anyways, I must say, I really like the pump dispenser for a powder! It keeps things nice and tidy, and you avoid having that fear of pouring out way too much.
To apply this highlighter, I pumped out some powder onto the back of my hand and used a Morphe M510 brush to gently sweep it across my skin. A lot of powder is picked up since it’s a loose powder (versus a pressed powder), so make sure to tap off the excess if you use a brush. Another great way to apply it would be to lightly tap it on and blend it out using a beauty blender (or any makeup sponge). Even though I do like the pump dispenser, I found that I missed being able to pour the powder into the lid and then pour the excess back into the jar. You can’t really put back the excess powder into this bottle neatly, so you more than likely will end up wasting a bit.
Begonia: a soft, reflective gold with copper accents.
Moondust: a colorless shimmer.
Halcyon: a warm golden luster.
Super Fine Powder Shadow in Amber
Our Super Fine Powder Shadow is pure in formulation and fierce in color play.
Formulated without animal bi-products, synthetic preservatives, nano particles, gluten, parabens, fillers or toxins, our Super Fine Powder Shadow is 100% natural, cruelty-free, vegan and made in the USA.
Iron Oxides, Silica, Zinc Oxide, Micas.
Pure powder eyeshadow with a rollerball dispenser! I absolutely love the idea because working with straight powder shadows can be so messy and frustrating.
I tried out the shade Amber, which is a warm cinnamon sugar brown with a seductive shimmer. OOOH SEDUCTIVE. That’s why I chose this shade. ;) I don’t know if any of you eat toast with butter and a mixture of cinnamon and sugar on it (it’s amazing), but this shade looks exactly like that mixture! Don’t know what I’m talking about? Well, nonetheless, it’s pretty! And it’s the perfect lid shade for pretty much any type of eye look, whether it’s warm-toned, cool-toned, or neutral. (I chose this shade with the intention of using it as a lid shade.)
To be honest, I thought it was going to be way more pigmented than it is, solely based on the fact that it’s a loose powder, but it’s pretty sheer. And I think that has a lot to do with the rollerball dispenser. When I rolled it onto the back of my hand, it was stunning! It was bright, shimmery, and everything I look for in a lid shade. However, when I rolled it onto my lid, it didn’t have nearly the same effect. I think it’s because the eyelid is kind of a weird shape and you can’t press hard enough to get a good roll out of that rollerball on your lid (because your eyeball is right under it). So, I found the best way for me to apply it is to roll out a bunch on the back of my hand and use my fingertip to apply it on my lid. I got the best color payoff using this method. Using this method, the shadow is really pretty!
African Violet: a deep pearlescent purple
Ballet: a soft mauve with lavender undertones.
Chai: a luminous beige with apricot undertones.
Gardenia: a semi-luster brown with golden undertones.
Mahogany: a dazzling pearlescent blue-grey tint with brown undertones.

Pyrite: an antique gold with strong green undertones.
Copper: a bold bronze with a dash of silver luster.
Slate: a cool metallic silver with blue undertones.
Luna: a pearlescent light grey.
Lace: a luminous ivory with subtle pink undertones.
Cedar: a medium-deep brown with neutral undertones and subtle luminosity.
Dahlia: a semi-luster brown with golden undertones.

LOVE LOVE LOVE. If any of you know me, you know that I am totally not a lipstick girl (even though I wish I was!). On a daily basis, I don’t wear anything on my lips because I can’t be bothered to touch up my lipstick every time I drink coffee, eat something, or my hair ruins it. I know that sounds dramatic, but that’s how I feel about lipstick! SO, this product is absolutely perfect for me!
It’s a super pigmented lip stain that you don’t have to worry about touching up throughout the day. The formula is really creamy and so comfortable to wear. It isn’t a liquid lipstick at all – it has much more of a cream texture. After applying it to my lips like I would any other type of lipstick, I blot it a bit to get rid of the excess and to kind of set it into place. It has a really moisturizing effect so I like to leave some of the product on my lips because it feels good! Throughout the day, it the product will wear off, but the color never does, so no worries about ever having to touch it up!
The shade I chose, On Pointe, is described as a ‘muted ballet shoe blush,’ but on myself, I don't know if I would describe it that way. But, that's probably just because I have fairly light skin (it definitely looks darker than a ballet shoe on me). It’s a really flattering shade that I think can be worn with almost any type of eye look and it’s exactly the kind of shade I prefer wearing on a daily basis. It still looks natural, but so much better than my actual lips LOL.
From now until Sunday, March 11th at midnight (or while supplies last), receive a FREE su/stain in the shade Going Rouge with orders $50+!! Don't miss out!
