2017 Favorites!

Hi, friends! Hope you all had a great holiday season! I had a great time spending time with my family and of course, Justin! :) Now that the holidays are over, I’m totally struggling getting back into the work grind. Waking up at 4:45?! Umm, no thank you. But, we all have to make some dollah bills, right? How else will I support my addiction to makeup?

Warning: Today’s post might end up being quite a long one because I will be talking about all of my favorite beauty products of 2017!

From both high-end and drugstore brands, I tried out tons of great products in 2017 and I’m excited to share with all of you what I thought were winners. Some products may have been released before 2017 and I contemplated leaving them out of this list, but then I decided to include them because these are MY favorites of 2017, even if you come across one and think to yourself, “that product is super old!”

So, without further ado, let’s get started!

Skincare

Bobbi Brown – Soothing Cleansing Oil

(First seen in my May Favorites post.)

This is my absolute favorite product to take my makeup off with. It takes off all of my makeup, even pesky mascara, while being gentle enough to never irritate my skin or burn my eyes. And I have really sensitive skin and eyes! It’s just so good. I definitely notice a difference in my skin whenever I’m lazy and just use a makeup remover wipe. Those wipes tend to irritate my skin leaving it red and dry, but this oil never does that!

Bobbi Brown – Hydrating Face Cream

(First seen in my June Favorites post.)

This is such a great hydrating night cream! I have pretty dry skin, which gets even worse when I get lazy with my skincare routine. But, after a few nights of using this cream, my skin is as good as new! I also attribute the improvement of my breakouts and the reduction of my acne scars to this cream. It’s an all-around win.

Bobbi Brown – Vitamin Enriched Face Base

(First seen in my May Favorites post.)

If you’ve been following me on my makeup journey for a while now, then you know how much I love this primer! It’s like a moisturizer and primer in one – which I love because that cuts out a step in my makeup routine. And it honesty makes my foundation look amazing. I’ve been using it for quite a while now and I can’t see myself ever not using it.

Read my full review here – the review is kind of old but that’s how long I’ve been using it!

Foundation

Hourglass Cosmetics – Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick

(First seen in my September Favorites post.)

If you’ve been on the fence about trying out a stick foundation, do it! And this is the one to try. The application is so easy, it blends out like a dream, and it makes your skin look great.  I absolutely love this foundation.

Fenty Beauty – Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation

(First seen in my November Favorites post.)

This has definitely become my everyday foundation in the recent months because of its soft matte finish and longevity. I can go through an 8-hour work day with absolutely no doubt that my foundation will look good at the end of the day. And the best part? It’s only $34 for 1.07 oz.! That is such a good price! High-five, Rihanna.

Concealer

Tarte – Shape Tape Concealer

(First seen in my November Favorites post.)

Wasn’t this just like THE concealer of the year? Was there anyone that didn’t like it?! It may be a bit heavy of a concealer for some, especially if you don’t have dark circles to cover up and don’t need much coverage. But I am all about that coverage! And it covers everything so well without leaving the skin looking cakey. It’s great.

Nars – Radiant Creamy Concealer

(First seen in my July Favorites post.)

This has been my ride-or-die concealer for so long and if the price was just a little lower, I probably wouldn’t have even tried other options. $30 for one tube is steep when you go through concealer as much as I do! But, I still find myself reaching for this concealer because I just know I love it. It’s SO creamy and it has great coverage without being as thick as the Shape Tape concealer (but Shape Tape has more coverage).

Maybelline – Better Skin Concealer

(First seen in my October Favorites post.)

This is definitely my favorite drugstore concealer and it reminds me a lot of the NARS Radiant Creamy concealer. Just solid all-around. Good coverage, blendable, and doesn’t crease on me at all. Honestly, if I wasn’t a makeup addict and I didn’t have the urge to try every single product out there, I would be totally happy using this concealer for the rest of my life, especially because of its low price. But, how much fun would that be?! Other makeup addicts can relate, we HAVE to try other things.

Loose Setting Powder

Laura Mercier – Loose Translucent Powder

(Oddly never mentioned in any of my Favorites posts!)

If you read my 2017 Product Empties post, you already know how much I love this! This has been my go-to setting powder for quite some time now and even after trying many other loose setting powders, I still find myself coming back to this one. The biggest difference I notice when using this powder compared to when I use other setting powders is that it never makes my skin look dry and powdery. It’s as if it just melts into the foundation instead of just laying on top of it. It also seems to add extra coverage which I LOVE.

Maybelline – Fit Me! Loose Finishing Powder

(First seen in my October Favorites post.)

This powder is a really great drugstore loose powder and for the price (~$7), who can really complain about anything?! It sets my face nicely and keeps it looking good all day. All of the shades are colored and I wish they had a translucent option because there isn’t really a shade that truly matches me. But, I make it work because the price of the powder is amazing. I still like the Laura Mercier powder better because this one leaves me looking a bit dry, but it’s my go-to drugstore option.

Bronzer

Physicians Formula – Butter Bronzer in Light Bronzer

(First seen in my August Favorites post.)

I’m not really a bronzer girl because I kind of like looking like a vampire, but I use this product on an everyday basis (when I’m not going HAM with my contour) to do a light contour and to warm up my forehead and temple areas. The Butter Bronzer is very loved in the beauty community and for good reason! The formula is great, making application and blending super easy. This is the only bronzer I’ve used this year (actual bronzer, not including my ABH contour kit) and I never had any thoughts of switching to a different one, so I must like it!

Blush

Wet n Wild – ColorIcon Blush in Pearlescent Pink

(First seen in my June Favorites post.)

I absolutely love this blush! It reminds me a lot of NARS Orgasm, with more of a peach tone rather than pink, but still has a bit of gold specks in it. I’ve tried a handful of blushes this year and how funny is it that my favorite one is the cheapest one? Just proves that price doesn’t always equal quality!

Highlighter

Ofra – Rodeo Drive Highlighter

GUYS. I’m living, breathing, and dying over this highlighter! This is my newest favorite highligher as I just got it during Ofra's Black Friday sale. I’m kicking myself for waiting so long to even try it! After hearing tons of YouTubers talk about Ofra’s highlighters and listening to James Charles just GUSH over this one, I had to buy it. (I guess they all do live up to the title of Influencer, huh?) This highlighter is the creamiest and smoothest I’ve ever seen. AND THE GLOW! I’ve never experienced being really shocked when putting on a highlighter, but with this one, I was like “HOLY SHIT!” I love that it doesn’t have big flakes of glitter in it and it’s just a nice sheen and really makes it look like you’re glowing. It’s the perfect champagne-gold shade especially for lighter skin tones. I have a friend that’s more of a medium skin tone and she said, “Rodeo Drive literally is the color of my sweat.” LOLOL. Whether that’s a good thing or bad thing is up to one’s own interpretation. (I personally think it’s a good thing.)

Maybelline – MasterChrome Highlighter

(First seen on my October Favorites post.)

This highlighter is definitely my favorite drugstore highlighter. It’s just so good! The texture is so soft and creamy and the application is stunning! The color is a bit darker of a gold shade than I normally go for, but that didn’t stop me from already reaching pan on the thing! It gives me more of a sun-kissed vibe, which I don’t normally like, but this product changed my mind! It’s that good.

Anastasia Beverly Hills – Nicole Guerriero Palette

(First seen in my June Favorites post.)

I had to throw this palette in here because even though I haven’t been using it recently, this was my go-to highlighting palette at one point. This was the first highlighting palette that I ever purchased (I think), and it was a great one to start off with because there’s a variety of shades to help me learn exactly what type of highlight I like. Now that I’ve tried tons of different highlighters, I don’t find myself reaching for this one that often, but I definitely am going to start using it again because I remember loving it so much! The quality of the powders is great, which is not a surprise from ABH. And bonus: the shades all double as great eyeshadows – I especially love Forever Young and Glo Getter as lid shades.

Eyeshadow

Morphe Brushes – Jaclyn Hill Palette

(First seen in my October Favorites post.)

This has easily become my go-to palette that I find myself reaching for every day. The range of shades just make it easy to create any type of look (although I have only tried out those bold blues and greens once). The quality of the palette is just so good that I know every shade is going to blend out well and I’m not going to have any disastrous errors, even when using the bold colors. (The colors might come out looking crazy, but at least I know everything will be blended out nicely!) And I love that there are staples in this palette like a great brow-bone highlight shade, a great transition shade, a great dark brown, etc. It’s really a one-stop palette which makes it super convenient.

ColourPop Cosmetics – Golden State of Mind Palette

I love this palette so much! It’s an all glitter palette, so it’s definitely not a one-stop palette like the Jaclyn Hill Palette, but it’s great for lid shades. Since I got it back in November (I think…? I got it during the Sephora VIB sale), I literally have been using it almost every single day. I’m all about the glitter these days, so this is my go-to palette for putting a pop of glitter on the lid. All of the shades are gorgeous, but my absolute favorite one is Sparkler (2nd row, 2nd from the right). Perfect for a gold lid!

Tarte – Tartelette in Bloom Palette

(First seen in my August Favorites post.)

This palette definitely has a special place in my heart. When I was in Japan, before I started to really get into makeup, this was the ONLY palette I had and it was probably the best palette I could’ve bought at the time. It has all of the shades you really need for everyday looks and it has some shimmers in there for when I was feeling sparkly! I actually still use this palette every day because I use the two brown shades (Smarty Pants & Jetsetter) for my brows, and I use the bone shade (Flower Child) to set my eyeshadow primer and blend out the concealer if I cleaned up my brows. This is the only eyeshadow palette that I hit pan on a few of the shades – that says a lot about how much I’ve used it! Like I said earlier, it’s a great palette with staple shades that you always need

Stila – Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadow

(First seen in my May Favorites post.)

Okay, this must be in everyone’s favorite lists! If you haven’t tried these yet, go try them now! Working with glitter can be difficult with the fallout, applying glitter glue, creasing, etc., but these make it soooo easy. It comes with a doe-foot applicator which makes application almost fool-proof. And the shades are stunning! It’s so damn glittery (more than the ColourPop Golden State of Mind Palette) and it doesn’t crease or flake off throughout the day. Once it dries, it’ll stay put! These shadows are definitely the way to go if you want a SUPER glittery look.

Brows

Anastasia Beverly Hills – Perfect Brow Pencil

Seeing this pencil on my favorites list should be no surprise, especially if you read my 2017 Product Empties post. I’ve been using this brow product for SO long, and I’ve never changed to another one because this one has always worked for me! And I love that it lasts so long – I find that the retractable brow pencils run out a lot quicker. This one lasts me about 6 months! It is more effort to have to manually sharpen the tip (and you need that tip to be sharp for fleeky brows!), but it’s worth it. This pencil is a bit waxier than and not as soft as the Brow Wiz by ABH, but I like that about it!

Eyeliner

Ardency Inn – Modster Eyeliner

(First seen in my November Favorites post.)

This is a new favorite for me as I’ve only been using it for the past few months. I’ve been using the MAC Technakohl Liner since the dawn of time (see my 2017 Product Empties post) for my waterline and I just never sought out a different one. There are just so many liner pencils out there that it’s so overwhelming to figure out which ones are good! So, thank goodness my boy, Manny MUA, mentioned this liner in one of his favorites videos (ages ago), because it has changed my life! This pencil is SO creamy, so damn black, and it stays all day long. I used to get a little bit of smearing on the outer corners of my eyes, but never thought anything of it because I figured it was just because the liner is on my waterline, which is wet, which inevitably will smear a bit throughout the day. BUT, this pencil doesn’t do that! If you’re looking for a good waterline pencil, this is the way to go!

Mascara

Loreal – Lash Paradise Mascara

(First seen in my July Favorites post.)

This is another product that should be no surprise to see on this list if you’ve been keeping up with my makeup journey. This mascara is seriously the only one I will use at the moment. It’s just so good for adding both volume and length! And for such an affordable price, I’ll use this one over luxury mascaras any day.

Marc Jacobs Beauty – Velvet Noir Mascara

Right after I said I would use the Lash Paradise mascara over any luxury mascara, here is the Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir mascara LOL. The only reason I even have this mascara is because I got it for free – I just can’t justify spending $26 on a tube of mascara when there are so many good drugstore options. ANYWAYS, price aside, it’s no wonder this mascara is as popular as it is! It does such a good job of lengthening the lashes and because it’s more of a watery formula, it never makes the lashes look clumpy. It doesn’t do an outstanding job of adding volume, just an alright job. But, if you want that long fluttery lash look, this is the one.

Lips

Kylie Cosmetics – Candy K Lip Kit

(First seen in my July Favorites post.)

For a girl that almost never wears any type of lip product, I didn’t have a lot of options to choose from for this list. But even though there weren’t many to choose from, this lip kit was definitely my favorite, by far. It is just the perfect pink nude for my skin tone and it’s actually very close to my natural lip color, which makes it great for everyday wear. The formula both feels and looks a bit dry on the lips, but that’s to be expected with such a matte lip product. Also, it’s definitely transfer-proof after drying down and it lasts incredibly long. And when you do need to touch it up, new product applies nicely over the dried down product already on the lips – no weird clumping.

Setting Spray

Urban Decay – All Nighter Setting Spray

(This oddly was never mentioned in any of my Favorites post either!)

This is the only setting spray I’ve actually tried this year because it’s just so damn good! It makes my makeup stay in place all day long and it adds in just the right amount of moisture back into my skin after powdering my face like a mad woman.

Brushes

Morphe Brushes – Y-6 Brush

(First seen in my June Favorites post.)

This brush, my friends, is THE BEST brush ever to apply foundation with (or any cream products). The flat-top kabuki makes it great for blending out foundation and the bristles are super soft, but still densely packed to decrease any streakiness. I’ve been using it since May, and bought another one during Morphe’s Black Friday sale because I love it so much! I use it every single day for blending out both my concealer and foundation and I can trust that it’ll look seamless because of it.

Morphe Brushes – M510 Brush

This brush is a new favorite for me – I just got it on Black Friday. But, that has been enough time for me to fall in love with it! Before using this brush, I always wondered why I wasn’t getting the same blinding highlight as others, even though I was using the same products. Well, girl it was the brush! A brush totally does make a huge difference in terms of application and now I won’t apply highlighter with anything else but this brush.

e.l.f.Cosmetics – Pointed Powder Brush

(First seen in my September Favorites post.)

Since getting this brush mid-year, it is still my absolute favorite for applying loose setting powder. The pointed tip really makes it easy to get into those harder-to-reach spots, like around the nose or under the eyes. And it’s so fluffy!! I could just pet my face with it all day.

And that's it for this post guys! Hope you all enjoyed it and sorry it was so long! If you made it to the end, you are a champ! I just really wanted to share ALL of my favorites of 2017 because there were so many amazing products in the last year!

Thanks for reading and I hope you all have a great 2018! <3
