Hi, friends! Are you all still recovering from Thanksgiving/Black Friday/Cyber Monday (Cyber Week?)? Whatever they’re calling it now… Even though it’s been over a week since, I know both my waistline and my wallet are still recovering! I ate way too much food and spent way too much money LOL.
Did any of you battle the crowds or did you stay at home and hide behind your computer screen the entire weekend? I did most of my shopping online and I got a bunch of new makeup at great prices! (Will be doing a Cyber Week Haul post so be on the lookout for that to see what I bought!)
For today’s post, we will be looking at Sleek MakeUP’s Solstice Highlighting Palette. Talk of this palette has been buzzing around the beauty community for a while now and it’s one of Sleek MakeUP’s best sellers, but I never made it a point to pick it up.
I have never seen Sleek MakeUP in my local drugstores, so I had to order this online from Ulta. I had it in my shopping cart for the longest time, but never pulled the trigger until a recent sale. For a fairly low price of $14.99, I don’t know why I didn’t just buy it sooner LOL ya girl gotta be thrifty on some things.
Without further ado, let’s take a look at Sleek MakeUP’s Solstice Highlighting Palette!
This palette is marketed as a face and body highlighting palette and includes two baked powders, one cream formula, and one silky shimmer powder.
It’s a fairly small palette, with the case dimensions being 2.7” x 4.6” x 0.7” (LxWxH) and there is 0.32 oz (9g) of product, making each pan 0.08 oz (2.25g).
The case is a GORGEOUS gold reflective case that is super sleek (see what I did there?) and is pretty much a gold mirror – it is that reflective!
It is really prone to fingerprints though, just an FYI. It also comes with a little brush, but let's be honest, who uses these tiny brushes?!
Shades and Formula:
I don’t own any other baked highlighters so I was super excited to try these out! The two baked shades are Hemisphere and Equinox, which are the two on the right side of the palette.
Hemisphere has a purple-pinkish shade and Equinox is a peach shade. Being that they are baked powders, it is naturally less smooth and drier than a pressed powder during swatching, but the only thing that matters is how it applies on the skin!
Subsolar, the shimmer pressed powder on the bottom left of the palette, is a white-yellow shimmer and it is so creamy that I actually thought it was a cream when I first touched it until I read the description.
Ecliptic, the cream shade on the top left, is like a purple-toned champagne-goldish shade….? Haha it’s so hard to describe!
I’ve been trying this palette out for about a week now, and spoiler alert… I like it! I had fairly high expectations because I’ve heard so many positive reviews and I was not let down!
My favorites are definitely the two baked shades. Both give off an icy vibe, but with different undertones. I think I prefer the peach toned shade (Equinox) over the purple toned shade (Hemisphere) because it’s more wearable for everyday activities. Don’t get me wrong, Hemisphere is still really beautiful!
Both of the baked shades start off fairly subtle, but are easy to build up to bold – you have to be careful though, I think there is possibility of it looking a bit too white if you go overboard, especially if you have a darker skin tone.
Even on myself (and I’m pretty fair), I think these shades are a bit on the white side for my preference. That’s totally my preference, though! If you like the white type of highlighters, this’ll be perfect for you!
I don’t see myself using either of the other two shades much – the cream shade (Ecliptic) is a bit dark for my skin tone and I’m not a huge fan of cream highlighters in general. I always forget to put them on BEFORE I set my entire face with powder.
Also, it’s a pretty sheer shade, especially after blending it out so there are no harsh edges. It’s pretty, though! Might be good for those days you want just a subtle highlight, and can even be worn on bare skin!
I actually think it would be perfect for those days that you can’t be bothered putting a full face of makeup on, but you still want that glow (or don’t want to look dead).
The shimmer pressed powder (Subsolar) is just too much of a yellow tone for my preference. Also, it’s pretty sheer compared to the baked powders, so I will definitely lean towards using one of the baked shades.
It goes on smoothly and it’s pretty, so if the yellow tone works for you and you’re looking for more of a subtle highlight, then it’ll be great! And, this shade could also be used as an eyeshadow, which is probably what I’ll end up using it as.
Overall, I think this is a good highlighter palette to have. Is it the best highlighter I have? Probably not. Is it my favorite highlighter in my collection? Probably not.
But, there will be some days that I want that ice queen look, and this palette (the baked shades) would be my go-to.
And for the price of the palette, you get 4 different shades and 3 different formulas. That variety gives you so many options in terms of layering the shades or using it on different parts of your face and body.
It’s definitely worth the money and I would recommend it for sure!
And that’s it for this post, guys! If you already have this palette, I would love to hear what you think about it and if you don’t have it, but are thinking of buying it, just do it already!
As always, thank you for reading and until next time. <3 Happy Holidays!
P.S. If you like what I do here on lianadesu, it would mean so much to me if you bought me a coffee (support my blog)!
Also, any time you are planning on making an online purchase, don’t forget to use Ebates! Use Ebates every time you order something online so you can get a bit of your money back! (Some stores even offer in-store cash back.) Sephora, Ulta, and many more makeup stores participate in Ebates. I’ve made over $400 in cash back from Ebates since I started under 2 years ago and I literally only buy makeup LOL so if you’re not using it, you’re totally missing out! I wrote a review on Ebates when I first started using it here.
