Hourglass Cosmetics Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick - Review

Hi, friends! I hope you all are having a wonderful November so far! Time is seriously just flying by. Before we know it, it’ll be 2018 and honestly, I don’t even know where most of 2017 went.  My mom used to always tell me that the older you get, the faster time goes by, and she is most definitely right!

Now that I’m 25 and kind of adulting and shit, with a real full-time job that provides benefits and all that jazz, I’ve been thinking…Isn’t it kind of sad to think that for most of the rest of my life, I’ll spend my time working? I think about that a lot… And, how fulfilling must a job be that I’ll actually be satisfied with my life?  I’ll stop here before I get really deep into this and start talking about the meaning of life LOL.

ANYWAYS,

This post is loooong overdue as I first mentioned this product in my September Favorites, where I said I’d be doing a review on it. WELL, today is the day! I’ll finally be reviewing the Hourglass Cosmetics Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick (goodness that is a mouthful). This is a pretty exciting post for me because it’s my first foundation review and my first time trying a stick foundation.

This product has been buzzing around YouTube for a while and the reviews across the board have been pretty positive. I first heard about this foundation from Manny MUA and he absolutely raves about it.

I’ve also seen some other YouTubers like Laura Lee and Tati using it on their channels. Seeing such positive reviews from my favorites definitely gave me high expectations for this product!

Information:

It is described on Hourglass’ website as:

“A revolutionary foundation stick with the coverage of a concealer, the fluidity of a liquid, and the weightlessness of a powder in a longwearing waterproof formula for undetectable full coverage. The unprecedented concentration of pigment in this foundation provides maximum coverage with minimum product, concealing all discoloration and imperfections for flawless skin with a seamless finish.”

This foundation is available in 27 shades (not too shabby!), is vegan and cruelty-free, has a net weight of 0.25 oz/7.2 g, and costs $46.

Packaging:

I am absolutely obsessed with the packaging! It comes in a super sleek triangular-shaped tube, with a copper-ish finish. It definitely has a luxury feel to it and I think the unique triangular shape gives it so much character.

The product comes out with a twist of the bottom component and it is retractable, so no worries if you twist out too much.

Application:

I swipe the stick all over my face – maybe 3 across each cheek, one across my forehead, one across my chin, and one down my nose. I use a dense kabuki flat-top brush (Morphe Y-6) to then blend the product all over my face.

After the first layer, I usually will add more product to areas that I want more coverage, and blend that out. Being that it is a stick foundation, I was pleasantly surprised with how easy it blended out.

I definitely expected that it would need more work to blend out, but I was pleasantly surprised! It seemed as if the product just melted into my skin.

The biggest benefit of using a stick foundation like this is how tidy it is – there’s no pumping liquid out onto the back of your hand and accidentally getting it on your clothes (is that just me?). It’s just so much less of a mess than using a liquid foundation.

Coverage:

The website gives a very thorough how-to guide to achieve full coverage with this foundation:

Full Coverage for a virtually perfect complexion:
1. Prep skin with Veil Mineral Primer
2. Dot 3 triangular dots in the center of both sides of the face - 3 dots on the chin, 3 dots on the tops of the cheekbones and 3 dots on the forehead
3. Buff in with the Vanish™ Seamless Finish Foundation Brush in tiny circular motions
4. To use as a concealer, dot 3 triangular dots under each eye and blend using a stippling and buffing motion with the Vanish™ Seamless Finish Foundation Brush

I totally used way more product that their guide to achieve full-coverage, but maybe I have a bigger face than most LOL.

Also, as I mentioned earlier, I do usually have to go back and add more product to certain areas after the first layer. With that being said, this foundation is definitely easily buildable to full-coverage, but just not with the recommended amount in their how-to guide.

Let’s just disregard their how-to guide because I think it’s crazy to realistically expect full ass coverage with such a little amount. But in my opinion, I would consider this foundation pretty full coverage.

Finish:

The finish is like a soft matte – it’s not super matte, but it’s not dewy either.

True to its name, it does leave a pretty seamless finish. I mean, it’s not going to make large bumps or blemishes disappear, we’re not talking miracles here, but it does do a nice job of evening out skin tone and camouflaging hyperpigmentation.

Even after building it up to full ass coverage, it still looks and feels lightweight and definitely doesn’t leave you looking or feeling cakey.

I absolutely love the finish of this foundation, it may even be my favorite foundation just based on the finish because it just looks so beautiful on my skin!

This foundation is great for dry skin types or if you have some dry patches on your skin. I have fairly dry skin and I definitely have some dry patches, but this foundation glides over it effortlessly and camouflages it with the rest of your skin.

Most foundations will really stick to dry patches and emphasize them, but this foundation does the complete opposite.

Longevity:

The website says that it provides 12 hours of coverage and well, that’s a bold claim to make! I do have to disagree with that claim; I definitely think this foundation is more like an 8 hour wear foundation.

I wore it to work every day for a week (with my normal routine of using a primer and setting my entire face) and every day, by the end of the day, my foundation was breaking up a bit around my nose and mouth.

I work in an air-conditioned office and I barely sweat at all, so I was under perfect conditions for the foundation to last. I put my makeup on around 6 am and I finish work at 4 pm, so 10 hours is definitely too long for this foundation.

I’d say it looks really beautiful up until around 6 hours, but by 8 hours, it starts to break apart.

Is it worth the cost?

If I were to use this foundation every day, with using enough product to achieve full coverage, I don’t think it would last me more than 4-6 weeks.

You get 0.25 oz. of product, which isn’t a lot, especially when the industry standard is about 1.0 oz. (Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Foundation contains 1.08 oz. of product, for example).

So, with that being said, I don’t think I can say that it’s worth the cost. Personally, I don’t mind the cost because the product is so good and I’ve always thought of foundation as a splurge product.

But, there are definitely other great foundations on the market that’ll last you way longer for $46, or for even less.

Rating:

I’d give this foundation a 4.5/5, taking 0.5 points off for not being as long-lasting as I’d like it to be. I would have docked another 0.5 points for how little product you get in the tube, but that isn’t really related to the quality of the foundation – it’s more of a brand thing. Plus, 4/5 sounded way too low of a rating because I absolutely love this foundation!
