e.l.f Cosmetics Haul - First Impressions
Hi, friends! I know the blog has taken a bit of the backseat recently (I've been too busy eating), but I'm trying to get back into it! Early last month, e.l.f. Cosmetics had a 50% off sale to celebrate their anniversary. YES 50% OFF! e.l.f. Cosmetics is already so affordable that it's crazy to get their products for 50% off. I only have two products from e.l.f., so I figured this was the perfect time to try out some of their other products. I've heard great things about the quality of their brushes, so you know ya girl got a few!
First up, the brushes!
Look at that fluffy goodness!
Selfie Ready Foundation Blurring Brush | e.l.f. | $6
This ergonomically designed foundation brush distributes product evenly by blurring product into the skin in a buffing process for a soft-focus "selfie ready" effect. The soft tapering of the dome shape mimics the shape of your fingers to contour and blend around the angles of the face. Creates a seamless looking finish for foundation, concealer, and any other cream, liquid, or powder products. Great for blending and blurring makeup for a soft, smooth, and flawless effect that is ideal for picture taking. Set your makeup in with powder using the Selfie Ready Powder Blurring Brush for an extra picture perfect effect!
The brush is so soft! It really feels amazing to the touch. The bristles are really densely packed and seemed to be held together really well—no bristles have fallen out just by playing with it. This is my first dome-shaped brush that is tapered to this extent, so I'm super excited to try it out!
Ultimate Blending Brush | e.l.f. | $6
The Ultimate Blending Brush is specifically designed for advanced makeup techniques that help achieve professional looks. The large dome-shaped head and densely packed bristles maneuver in and around the crevices and contours of your face for seamless, even coverage. It picks up the perfect amount of product to build coverage with powder, liquid, or mousse foundation, bronzer, or blush. The ultra-fine synthetic fibers are hand cut, shaped, and assembled by artisans for expert craftmanship for a luxury experience.
For advanced makeup techniques?! Oh shit, I don't know if my makeup abilities are advanced enough for this brush. Just kidding, it seems like a pretty standard kabuki brush. This brush is also really soft and the bristles are densely packed. There was one loose bristle sticking out of the brush (you can see it in the photos), but it came out easily and the rest of the bristles seem glued into the wand really well.
Pointed Powder Brush | e.l.f. |$6
This brush allows targeted application of face powders to achieve an airy, light application. The distinctive tapered point easily sweeps on targeted color, perfect for highlighting, defining, sculpting, and contouring.
Okay, this brush is so much bigger than I thought it was going to be. I bought it specifically to apply powder on my under-eye area and it'll definitely still work for that, but damn, it's a big, fluffy brush! Like the others, the quality of the brush seems great—it's so soft and looks very well put together.
Highlighting Brush | e.l.f. | $3
A slim, tapered brush designed to offer precision highlighting on the cheeks and brow bones to achieve a strobing effect. The soft texture and loose hairs provide smooth strokes of even application for a flawless finish. Perfect for using a highlighter to achieve an illuminating glow, or can be used to sculpt and contour the face, or as a tool to soften and blend cream and liquid colors. The Taklon bristles are vegan-friendly and easy to clean.
I bought this brush specifically to highlight my cheek bones, as I don't have a proper highlighting brush and I don't like using fan brushes. I think this brush might be a little big for highlighting, though...? Maybe. I do like how loose the bristles are, which makes it easy to sweep highlighter across the cheek bones. I can't see it being used to blend cream or liquid colors though, because of how loose the bristles are. By now, I don't even have to mention how soft the brush is or how well-made it is—e.l.f just knows how to make brushes!
Crease Brush | e.l.f | $3
Applies eyeshadow precisely into the crease of the eyelid for an expertly blended look. The tapered tip is great for contouring to add depth and definition. This brush works great with loose or pressed eyeshadow-wet or dry! The soft Taklon bristles are vegan-friendly and easy to clean.
A girl can never have too many crease brushes! I already have a few from Morphe, but figured I'd buy another one because I use a ton of different colors and I'm lazy to clean my brushes after each use. Let's be honest, does anyone actually do that? This brush is a pretty standard small blending brush. It's soft and feels nice against the eyelid. Can't have coarse bristles rubbing back and forth on an area as sensitive as the eyelids! I would prefer it to be a little bigger and even fluffier, but I think this will be alright.
Corrective Concealer: Erase & Conceal | e.l.f. | $4
Enjoy color correction and complete coverage all rolled into one sleek palette! The corrective formulas work to neutralize unwanted undertones, while the concealers brightens and disguises dark circles and spots.
This is my first color correcting product, so I'm super excited to try this! I struggle with acne, hyperpigmentation from acne scars, and redness in some areas, so I think this will be a great addition to my makeup routine. I've used it once so far, and the formula is really creamy and easy to blend out. Two thumbs up! Especially for $4...which means I got it for $2! Crazy.
Powder Blush Palette: Light | e.l.f. | $6
Enjoy 4 complementing shades that allow you to mix and match to create different looks. Create a beautifully pigmented look that lasts all day.
The shades definitely look darker in the photos online, but nonetheless, I am happy with these shades! The bottom right shade has little specks of glitter in it, which you can't see in the photos and it barely shows up on the skin. That shade reminds me a lot of the NARS Blush in Orgasm. It may be a dupe! I haven't tried the palette out yet, but my first impression is good and the swatches are nice!
Matte Lip Color: Natural | e.l.f. | $3
This convenient jumbo sized lip pencil creates exact color application with twist up ease so you never have to sharpen - but we included a sharpener at the base just in case! The pigment rich color glides on effortlessly and easily to provide long lasting matte color. The enriched Vitamin A, C & E formula moisturizes and hydrates lips for beautiful healthy looking lips.
Silly me bought two of these! So, fingers crossed I like it A LOT. I have this lippie in the shade Praline, which is way too brown for me, so I haven't used it much. But, I really liked how creamy the formula is, especially for a product described as a lip pencil, and I liked how easy it is to apply. So, I figured I'd try it in another shade. I really like this shade so far! I've only used it once, but I think it'll be a really nice pink nude for my skin tone.
Hydrating Bubble Mask | e.l.f. | $14
This Hydrating Bubble Mask fizzes and foams to remove excess dirt and cleanses the pores for glowing, healthy looking skin.
I am SO EXCITED to try this out! I know it's been a while since carbonated/bubbling masks have been floating around, but I've never tried one. I can't wait to see it foaming up on my skin! It's going to look so hilarious. I almost don't even care if it works or not, the gimmick of it alone makes it worth it!
I am so impressed with the packaging of e.l.f. products. For such an affordable brand, I was shocked with how sturdy and high-quality feeling all of the packaging is. To compare it to another affordable brand, wet n wild, the quality of the packaging is 100 times better. I always feel like I'm going to break the case when I open my wet n wild blushes or highlighters, but that is not the case with e.l.f. products. AND the blush palette and concealer palette comes with a mirror inside! Also, the feel of the mask container is amazing. It feels like it's a high-end skincare brand! So sturdy!
However, one thing I was not impressed with was how the products in the box were packaged. It looked like everything was just chucked in the box without a care in the world. There was no protective foam or bubble wrap, which would've been fine if I had just ordered brushes. But, I ordered a powder blush palette, which could've easily cracked during shipment. It arrived in perfect shape, so it's all good. But, being that it was packaged in a large box with a lot of empty space around, you know everything was being tossed around in there!
Another thing I don't particularly like is how the brushes are individually packaged. I know they're also packaged the same way when they're sold in stores, so it's not a shipping thing. They are all individually packaged in very tight-fitting plastic sleeves, which causes the brush head to get smashed. All of the brushes were a bit misshapen when I unpackaged them, which isn't a huge deal because they'll fluff out, but it isn't ideal.
